Spring has sprung! Wardrobe editing 101, what you need to know about it and why it’s so important!

Now that it’s Spring (well almost) I’ve had a lot of requests for wardrobe editing and closet clean outs from new and existing clients. I’ve been told it’s such an impactful service because my clients typically have a whole new outlook on their existing wardrobe! It’s also really fun! I share the idea with my clients that, it’s just like having a girlfriend over telling you what pieces from your closet look good on you and which ones you should toss! Who doesn’t LOVE that?

Here’s how it goes down:

1. Prior to your appointment you make a list of 3-4 of the most important things that you’d like to get out of my service. For example: I have a few dresses, scarves, skirts that I don’t know how to wear, I always tend to buy the same color clothing or the same pieces of clothing in different colors, I always buy new pieces and don’t know how to coordinate them with existing pieces.  My clients tend to want a wardrobe editing appointment because they lost weight, switched jobs, became single, needed fashion inspiration, downsizing and loosing space in their existing closet, wanted to look really good due to an upcoming leisure or work trip.

2. We’ll spend 2-3 hours sticking to your list of things you’d like to learn from the appointment taking pictures of every look that we put together. This is very important because we typically come up with 20-30 looks per session which is impossible to remember all of the new looks.

3. I’ll make a list of anything that you may need to go out and buy to complete your look and you can shop high or low for those pieces (Nordstrom or Forever 21, Neiman Marcus or H&M) and in most cases there’s only a few items that need to be purchased. You’d be surprised how a few statement pieces of jewelry or a few new pairs of shoes can give variety and a freshness to your wardrobe.

Here’s what one happy client had to say about her closet editing appointment!

Gina visited my home to provide me some fashion consulting for the fall season with focus on outfits to wear to an upcoming vacation trip to New York. Together, we went through my closet and Gina helped me to put together some great outfits that I wouldn’t have thought of on my own.  She provided me her insight on what the current trends were and showed me new ways to wear various pieces. Gina also provided me ideas on how to best fit my body type so that I look my best. She worked with me also on accessorizing… again, pulling jewelry & shoes from my already existing collection and showed me new ways to pair them with outfits and took pictures so that I would have something to reference once she left. Gina has a true gift and passion for fashion. Whenever I had a question about a piece combination, Gina confidentially explained what items worked together (based on color and/or style) and was also able to make modifications to outfits that I was not 100% comfortable with. Everyone can benefit from wardrobe consulting. It is SO worth taking the time and making an appointment with Gina!  Her fresh perspective creates excitement for what’s already in your closet when you would otherwise say “I have nothing to wear!” – April K.
