The Community

Glamhairus is so much more than a beauty company. Our members are regularly involved with giving back to the Chicago community. Here are some charities and organizations that Glamhairus is most involved with.

Players for Pits

Players for Pits is an Illinois based 501c3 no-kill rescue committed to saving pit bulls and pit bull mix breed dogs. The rescue was founded in May of 2013 and has grown over the years to include many dedicated volunteers and professional athletes. Everyone involved at Players for Pits is active within the community and works diligently towards helping abused, neglected, and abandoned dogs. As a volunteer based rescue, all funds are reliant upon donations, grants, and sponsorships. Funds are used mostly for medical care for the dogs in our care, as well as training and general care for those that require rehabilitation. Our rescue is run with via the implementation of teams in order to create a cohesive and close knit community amongst our volunteers.

Mother’s Day Makeover

Julie Hightower and the Daisie Foundation teamed up to give 150 mothers in Chicago the makeover of their dreams. It’s a powerful collaboration to support, inspire, and empower these women with the outward confidence to match their inner beauty. As a result, each woman received a stunning makeover and were invited to sit for a professional photoshoot, providing them with new headshots for their digital presence as a business professional.

Chicago English Bulldog Rescue

Chicago English Bulldog Rescue (CEBR) is a licensed Illinois shelter and a 501c3 charitable organization helping pure-bred bullies and their families. CEBR provides their dogs with a high quality diet, the best veterinary care around from a bulldog specialist, and behavioral evaluations of the highest quality.

Supporting the city and surrounding suburbs, CEBR has rehomed over 600 bullies and counseled hundreds of families to provide support, encouragement and training consults to help keep bullies in their homes. Their dedicated group of volunteers has enabled them to not only respond to an increased need for their services but also to strategically expand both their service area and exceptional Rescue Program which focuses on puppy mill, dog auction, and large scale surrender situations.

Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control

Helping Chicago’s neediest animals!

Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control (FCACC) is the nonprofit organization committed exclusively to helping save the lives of over 23,000 animals that come into custody of Chicago Animal Care and Control (ACC) at 2741 S. Western each year.

The City of Chicago takes in thousands of unwanted animals every year from citizens, brings stray animals in off the streets, and provides care for evidence animals in court cases. Contrary to perception, most of these animals are wonderful, loving companion animals–they simply have nowhere to go.

And that’s why Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control was founded. We’re here to provide help for as many of those unfortunate animals as we possibly can. They do that by:

* Transferring the animals from the shelter into our loving foster homes
* Telling people about 2741 S. Western as a great place to adopt
* Educating people about the proper care of their animals
* Advocating humane treatment of all animals
* Gifting the city shelter with resources the city budget doesn’t cover

Breast Cancer Awareness through the American Cancer Society

Each month Glamhairus offers clients pink hair extensions to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer. 100% of the proceeds are donated to the American Cancer Society.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. About 1 in 8 (12%) women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.

The American Cancer Society’s estimates for breast cancer in the United States for 2013 are:

  • About 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.
  • About 64,640 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).
  • About 39,620 women will die from breast cancer

At this time there are more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. It is up to us to fright against this horrible disease!
